You know who embodies the Christmas spirit?
Who really, really sums up this most magical time of year? Who makes the tinsel, tinsel? The mistle in the mistletoe?
It’s not Santa Claus.
It’s not his elves.
It’s not whatever is happening here.
“Even if their babies just spend 3 hours dressed as a sheep, lying down in some kind of manger, with absolutely no lines, Christmas mums will still be there.”
No. Allow me, instead, to pay my own small tribute to the Mums of Christmas. Christmas Carols, if you will.
Here’s how and where they make it all happen, in the key areas of the festive season.
Infrastructure
I jot down the mental “to dos”. She makes them happen IRL.
Take our tree for example. Left to my own devices, I think the tree would possibly be sourced around 6.39pm on 24/12. Maybe only as a drawing. Or worse, it would be this:

But fortunately, my beloved gets on the case from around about April. Including finding a belter of a light for the top of the tree.

Christmas lists
In a word: precision. In my experience, Mums are like the special forces of Christmas list makers.

Each year I get one dropped onto my phone or stapled to my forehead that contains an A-Z of must-get-or-die-trying gifts that I know – we all know – we have to do our best to find.
And given we get the finest of detail – I’m talking down to the GPS shelf locations of the coveted items – we really have no excuse.
Queens of the Nativity scene
This bit is harder than it sounds, but Mums are just there, you know, when it comes to all things Nativity.
Nothing stops them. Phobias of snowmen?

Nothing they can’t overcome. Nothing must endanger the chance for their little darlings to shine on stage at this, the most wonderful time of the year.
Mums will spend hours, days even, preparing for and attending kids’ nativity plays. Even if their babies just spend 3 hours dressed as a sheep, lying down in some kind of manger, with absolutely no lines, they will still be there. To see things like this:

And we all know they’re going to do a better job of recording the whole shebang than this.
So Merry Christmas Mums, thanks for everything. Even the 3 for 2 socks each year. We love them, honest.
